🔥 Who ESS Is Recruiting in Centennial
ESS describes itself as the largest education personnel and management company in the country. Schools hire it to find, screen and place the people who cover when a regular staffer is out. For this event the listing names four groups: substitute teachers, support staff, bus aides and custodians.
The listing does not say which school districts these openings serve, how many people ESS plans to hire, or what the jobs pay. ESS has announced a partnership covering Rocky Mountain Prep's charter schools in Denver and Aurora, but nothing on the event page ties the November 19 openings to any one employer. Ask at the table which schools you would be working in, and how far the drive is from home.
Different event, different day: Kelly Education is running its own substitute and paraprofessional hiring event on Tuesday, November 10, at Aurora CentrePoint. Read the Kelly Education details here.
✅ What You Need Before You Can Sub
Substitute teaching in Colorado requires a substitute authorization from the Colorado Department of Education. There are three versions:
- One-year: a high school diploma or equivalent, plus successful experience working with children. The fee is $60.
- Three-year: a bachelor's degree or higher from a regionally accredited school, with an official transcript. The fee is $90.
- Five-year: an active or expired full teacher license from Colorado or another state. The fee is $90.
Every version requires fingerprints submitted to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, and CDE treats an application without them as incomplete. If you don't hold an authorization yet, the hiring event is still worth your time: ask whether ESS will walk you through the application and which version its partner schools expect.
The authorization covers substitute teaching. For the support staff, bus aide and custodian roles, ask the recruiters what screening applies. ESS has said its candidates pass a background screening, so plan on one either way.
📋 How to Show Up Ready
- Register through Connecting Colorado before you go, using the link on the event page.
- Bring a government-issued photo ID and a few printed copies of your resume.
- If you have a bachelor's degree, know how to order an official transcript. It is required for the three-year authorization.
- Have your questions ready: pay by role, which schools, how assignments are offered, and how soon you could start.
