💼 The Jobs: Mail Handler Assistants and Beyond

The Postal Service calls this its largest Denver hiring effort of the year. The work is inside the mail processing plants, not on a carrier route, in the industrial corridor of northeast Denver.

According to the USPS announcement, supervisors and staff will be at both fairs to answer questions and walk people through the online hiring process.

💵 What It Pays

Mail Handler Assistant is the entry point, and it starts at $19.02 an hour. The ceiling is the more interesting number. USPS lists Mail Handler pay up to $36.57 an hour and Mail Handler Equipment Operator pay up to $37.15. USPS also cites regular raises, paid vacation and health insurance.

Career employees get the bigger federal package: several health and life insurance options, a pension, the Thrift Savings Plan (the federal version of a 401(k)), plus vacation and sick leave. Ask at the table how an assistant moves into a career job; USPS has not published a timeline.

✅ Read This Before You Apply

The Postal Service's basic eligibility rules knock some people out before the interview, so check them first:

  • You must be at least 18 when hired, or 16 with a high school diploma.
  • You must be a U.S. citizen, a permanent resident, or a citizen of a U.S. territory such as American Samoa.
  • You must pass a criminal background check covering 10 years, plus a drug screening and a medical assessment.
  • If you have lived outside the U.S. in the past five years, the background check may not clear.

Applying is free. USPS posts openings every other Tuesday until filled, so check back if you do not see one today. Anyone charging for a postal job is running a scam.

📋 How to Show Up Ready for the USPS Job Fairs

Both events are at the processing plant at 7500 E. 53rd Pl., east of Quebec Street. Earlier fairs at the Network Distribution Center on East 56th Avenue have passed, so do not go there. Can't make either date? Apply online, or ask at any post office.

  • Create your USPS Careers account before you go.
  • Bring photo ID and your recent work history.
  • Dress practically, with closed-toe shoes, as you would for a warehouse interview.
  • Ask which shifts the openings cover, including nights and weekends.

🔎 Where to Aim While You Wait

Federal hiring takes time. If you need a paycheck sooner, the same skills fit warehouse jobs across Commerce City, Montbello and the I-70 corridor.
